I'm Preeti - the founder of CleanBin.
The idea for CleanBin began in my own kitchen. Like most urban homes, mine came with a daily reality I'd learned to accept. Leaky plastic bags, odour, pests, and waste spilling across building lobbies. I started wondering: why have we normalised this?
I tried composting at home for a year. But in a city apartment, space constraints and complaints from neighbours about odour made it unsustainable.
After some digging, what struck me most was this: for almost every kind of waste, whether clothes, plastic, paper, or electronics, we have systems that make disposal easier. So why not kitchen waste? And when wet and dry waste are mixed, even recyclable material loses its value and often never gets recycled at all.
I also realised how much we rely on other people to touch, segregate, and handle what we don't want to deal with. Housekeeping staff and waste pickers end up managing what we won't, often in unsafe conditions. We've normalised passing on the problem, and I wanted to stop my waste being somebody else's burden.
That's when it became clear: waste needs to be solved at source.
CleanBin is my attempt to make that possible. A simple, technology driven solution that helps every household take responsibility for its own waste. Cleaner homes, better systems, and a small but meaningful step toward a cleaner India.
